Full HD and Ultra HD universal test

Included test patterns in detail:
The universal test videos in Full HD and Ultra HD consist of 10 specialized patterns, all with a duration of 30 seconds and put together in a 5-minute-video. If you are burning the BD-image (ISO file) to a Blu-ray, you'll also be able to skip to the individual patterns by using the chapter function of your player.
Test pattern / sequence
Combined (Universal) Pattern for a fast overview of the most important system parameters and picture adjustments. With resolution patterns, PLUGE, control fields for color saturation, overscan scales, convergence crosses, skintone reference and more.

Applications:

  • Adjustment of brightness
  • Adjustment of contrast
  • Adjustment of sharpness
  • Adjustment of color saturation
  • Adjustment of aspect ratio and overscan
  • Adjustment of brightness
  • and more
Overscan-Testpattern with markers for percentage values, save action, save title, letterbox markers and more

Applications:

  • Selection of the ideal aspect ratio in order to avoid scaling artifacts and overscan
  • Adjusting the aspect ratio and zoom
  • Review of the overscan in percent
  • Finding blackdrop positions for projection systems
Blacklevel-Testpattern The top, bottom and vertical center of the image is at video black, level 16.  There are single level steps out towards the left and right edges.  Markers have been placed at the –4%, +2% and +4% video steps used in the PLUGE pattern.

Applications:

  • Adjustment and control of video brightness
  • Identification of system limitations and clipping
Whitelevel-Testpattern The top and bottom of the image is at level 235 (video white).  Levels from the center out towards the left and right edges start at single level steps and then jumps to 2 levels per step.  Markers are placed at 95%, 100%, 105% and 109%.

Applications:

  • Adjustment and control of image brightness
  • Identification of system limitations and clipping
Combined Blacklevel and Whitelevel-Testpattern Black levels and white levels from the pictures before combined into a single pattern.

Applications:

  • Adjustment and control of video brightness
  • Adjustment and control of video contrast
  • Identification of system limitations and clipping
Color Luminance & Saturation Steps Each step represents a 5% change in level (top) or saturation (bottom). In the top three sections of the pattern the steps are reversed left to right, at the top running from 235 to 16, and stepping up from 16 to 235 at the bottom of each section.

Applications:

  • Adjustment of the color saturation
  • Adjustment of the color tint
  • Review of the color decoding
  • Identification of the side effects of picture improvement circuits
  • Advanced tests with R,G,B only mode of TVs and projectors
Pixelphase-Testpattern with phaseshifted pixel rasters to the limits of Full HD / Ultra HD resolution.

Applications:

  • Adjustment of the sharpness
  • Check for side effects of sharpness- and edge enhancements
  • Review of the resolution of TVs and projectors (especially 3-Chip LCD, D-ILA and SXRD)
  • IIdentification of frequency-dependent colorizations
Ultra HD / Full HD Distance Finder & Phase Modulation Resolution bursts, concentric circles and resolution wedges with sinusodial waveforms. Highest frequency as rectangular waveform. A continuos phase shift (360 degree/10 seconds) is adding motion to the pattern. Markers for minimum and optimum viewing distance.

Applications:

  • Finding the maximum viewing distance for visible differences with UHD TVs *
  • Finding the ideal individual viewing distance in order to recognize the highest UHD-Resolution *

*UHD patterns must be used for UHD resolution sets. Full HD patterns are restricted to 1080p use.

RGBW-Zoneplate with Phase Modulation This particular zone plate starts at a relatively low frequency at the center of the image and then get higher and higher going towards the outside of the image.  The amplitude is essentially between video black and video white.  There is a constant phase shift in the circles that makes them appear to be moving.

Applications:

  • Identification of interferences caused by edge enhancements or sharpness filters
  • Tests for chroma subsampling and chroma upsampling
Moving Text at Different Speeds Font sizes for each bar are 80, 40 and 20.  There are color and luminance shifts in the fonts. Motion at the top is the slowest, taking 30 seconds for the image to move across the screen.  The bottom takes the least amount of time to cross the screen, doing so in 3 seconds.  All of this is being done at a refresh rate in the source material of 23.976 frames per second.

Applications:

  • Motion artifact identification
  • Rating of the frame interpolation and framerate conversion
  • Rating of motion blur
